Monday Motivation

I secretly love Mondays.

Mondays are a chance to start again, kick ass and build towards your goals. I kicked off my week with another gem from one of my idols, Dr Maya Angelou: her poem 'amazement awaits'. She celebrates the boundless ability of humans to surpass ourselves; she celebrates the breaking down of barriers in the pursuit of excellence and humanity; she celebrates the ability for us as humans to celebrate each other.

I think one of the hardest thing to do - and don't deny it, Mauritians - after our competitive upbringing is to find genuine happiness in the success of others. We're taught to compare and compete with others, not ourselves.

Some of my core beliefs are that:

(a) the only person I'm competing against is myself;

(b) a woman who succeeds is elevating all of humanity, not just herself, and is something to be celebrated;

(c) inspiration makes the world go round.

Maya's poem is a timely reminder to keep doing just that. Happy week, y'all!
